  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; authorizing the 
  1.3             commissioner of corrections to establish a 
  1.4             correctional facility at Camp Ripley; appropriating 
  1.5             money; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota 
  1.6             Statutes, chapter 243. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [243.95] [THE MINNESOTA CORRECTIONAL 
  1.9   FACILITY-CAMP RIPLEY.] 
  1.10     The Minnesota correctional facility-Camp Ripley is 
  1.11  established at Camp Ripley, Minnesota, in which may be placed 
  1.12  persons committed to the commissioner of corrections by the 
  1.13  courts of this state who, in the opinion of the commissioner, 
  1.14  may benefit from the programs available at the facility.  The 
  1.15  general control and management of the facility shall be under 
  1.16  the commissioner of corrections. 
  1.17     Sec. 2.  [CORRECTIONAL FACILITY AUTHORIZED.] 
  1.18     The commissioner of corrections shall establish a minimum 
  1.19  security adult correctional facility for men at Camp Ripley.  
  1.20  The commissioner is authorized to enter into negotiations and 
  1.21  contracts with appropriate parties to establish the facility.  
  1.22  The commissioner shall ensure that the facility is available for 
  1.23  the placement of persons committed to the commissioner by 
  1.24  ......., 1996. 
  1.25     Sec. 3.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.26     $....... is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  2.1   commissioner of corrections to implement sections 1 and 2 to be 
  2.2   available until June 30, 1997.
