A bill for an act
relating to human services; appropriating money for a grant to the Phoenix
Residence.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; INDIVIDUALS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM
DISORDER GRANT.

new text begin (a) $250,000 in fiscal year 2020 and $150,000 in fiscal year 2021 are appropriated from
the general fund to the commissioner of human services for a grant to the Phoenix Residence
to meet the needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorder. This appropriation may be
used to provide:

new text begin (1) best practice evidence-based programs and interventions for adults with autism
spectrum disorder in residential and nonresidential settings and to support families with
adult children through the provision of in-home respite care and community engagement
support;
new text end

new text begin (2) adaptations to create sensory friendly and safe spaces in a residential setting;
new text end

new text begin (3) continuing education to maintain certifications and training in evidence-based
curriculums and programs;
new text end

new text begin (4) community engagement transportation and attendant services; and
new text end

new text begin (5) respite care services for individuals residing in their family home.

new text begin (b) Any unexpended balance in the first year of the biennium does not cancel and is
available in the second year of the biennium.
