  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to economic development; requiring the 
  1.3             department of trade and economic development to 
  1.4             conduct a study assessing the benefits of public civic 
  1.5             and convention centers. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [STUDY TO ASSESS BENEFITS OF CIVIC CENTERS.] 
  1.8      The division of tourism of the department of trade and 
  1.9   economic development shall conduct a statewide study assessing 
  1.10  the benefits of publicly owned civic and convention centers to 
  1.11  the convention and tourism industry in the state.  The results 
  1.12  of the study shall be reported to the house capital investment 
  1.13  committee and the senate finance committee by June 30, 1995.  A 
  1.14  copy of the study shall be given to the governor and to the 
  1.15  commissioner of finance, who shall consider whether to include 
  1.16  funding for civic and convention centers in the 1996 capital 
  1.17  budget. 
  1.18     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.19     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
