  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transportation; requiring commissioner of 
  1.3             transportation to require contractors to take certain 
  1.4             actions for hiring women and minorities for highway 
  1.5             projects; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota 
  1.6             Statutes, chapter 161. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [161.363] [HIGHWAY CONTRACTS; HIRING.] 
  1.9      In all contracts issued for trunk highway construction, 
  1.10  reconstruction, and improvement projects paid for in whole or in 
  1.11  part with money legislatively appropriated for those purposes, 
  1.12  where any part of a project is located within 30 miles of the 
  1.13  office of a statewide or regional opportunities 
  1.14  industrialization center, the commissioner shall include a 
  1.15  requirement that the contractor make all reasonable efforts to 
  1.16  work with the state or regional opportunities industrialization 
  1.17  center in meeting the goals established by the commissioner for 
  1.18  hiring women and minorities. 
  1.19     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective July 1, 2003.
