  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to unemployment insurance; providing extra 
  1.3             benefits for certain employees. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [EXEMPTION FROM ADDITIONAL BENEFITS 
  1.6   REQUIREMENTS; FINGERHUT; MORA; ONAN POWER ELECTRONICS; NICOLLET 
  1.7   COUNTY.] 
  1.8      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 268.125, 
  1.9   subdivisions 1 and 3, clauses (1) and (5), an applicant is 
  1.10  eligible to receive additional benefits under Minnesota 
  1.11  Statutes, section 268.125, effective the week following the week 
  1.12  in which the applicant exhausted regular benefits if: 
  1.13     (1) the applicant was laid off due to lack of work from 
  1.14  Fingerhut, Inc. in Mora, Minnesota, after January 1, 2001, or 
  1.15  from Onan Power Electronics in Nicollet county; and 
  1.16     (2) the commissioner of economic security finds that the 
  1.17  applicant satisfies the conditions of Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.18  section 268.125, subdivision 3, clauses (2) to (4).  
  1.19     This section does not apply to any applicant who, with 
  1.20  respect to any period prior to June 1, 2001, receives, or has an 
  1.21  agreement to receive, a retirement pension financed in whole or 
  1.22  in part by Fingerhut, Inc. or Onan Power Electronics. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EXEMPTION FROM ADDITIONAL BENEFITS REQUIREMENTS; 
  1.24  M.E. INTERNATIONAL, ST. LOUIS COUNTY.] 
  2.1      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 268.125, 
  2.2   subdivisions 1 and 3, clauses (1) and (5), an applicant is 
  2.3   eligible to receive additional benefits under Minnesota 
  2.4   Statutes, section 268.125, effective the week following the week 
  2.5   in which the applicant exhausted regular benefits if: 
  2.6      (1) the applicant was laid off due to lack of work from M. 
  2.7   E. International in St. Louis county on February 25, 2000; and 
  2.8      (2) the commissioner of economic security finds that the 
  2.9   applicant satisfies the conditions of Minnesota Statutes, 
  2.10  section 268.125, subdivision 3, clauses (2) to (4).  
  2.11     This section does not apply to any applicant who, with 
  2.12  respect to any period prior to September 1, 2001, receives, or 
  2.13  has an agreement to receive, a retirement pension financed in 
  2.14  whole or in part by M. E. International. 
  2.15     Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.16     Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final 
  2.17  enactment.
