A bill for an act
relating to economic development; appropriating money for loans and grants for
revitalization and restoration of brownfields.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin BROWNFIELDS REVITALIZATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL
RESTORATION LOANS AND GRANTS; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $6,000,000 in fiscal year 2016 and $6,000,000 in fiscal year 2017 are appropriated
from the general fund to the commissioner of employment and economic development for
loans and grants under Minnesota Statutes, section 116J.559, for brownfields revitalization
and environmental restoration. Of this amount, $3,000,000 each year is reserved for loans
and grants for projects in greater Minnesota. Any funds reserved for projects in greater
Minnesota that are not awarded by September 1 of each year are available for loans or
grants for projects within the metropolitan area. For the purposes of this section, "greater
Minnesota" means the area of the state that excludes the metropolitan area as defined in
Minnesota Statutes, section 473.121, subdivision 2. Funds appropriated under this section
may be expended in either year of the biennium and do not cancel.
