A bill for an act
relating to agriculture; appropriating money for veterinary diagnostic laboratory
equipment and facilities.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; VETERINARY DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY.

new text begin $9,800,000 in fiscal year 2016 and $9,800,000 in fiscal year 2017 are appropriated
from the general fund to the commissioner of agriculture for grants to the Board of
Regents of the University of Minnesota for veterinary diagnostic laboratory equipment
and facilities, as follows:

new text begin (1) $450,000 each fiscal year is to purchase a state-of-the-art transmission electron
microscope;
new text end

new text begin (2) $150,000 each fiscal year is to remodel the sample receiving area in St. Paul to
ensure optimum sample handling;
new text end

new text begin (3) $400,000 each fiscal year is to develop a state-of-the-art pathology training site
for veterinary students and veterinarians in St. Paul;

new text begin (4) $550,000 each year is to upgrade the molecular diagnostics facilities and
equipment including a high throughput genetic sequencer, bioinformatics equipment,
and serum sampler robotics; and

new text begin (5) $8,250,000 each year is to establish a statewide telepathology and telemedicine
veterinary network with three regional sites.
