relating to higher education; requiring information and skills training in personal
financial management; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
chapter 135A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [135A.135] PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT.

new text begin During initial student registration, each technical college, community college, or
state university shall, and the University of Minnesota is requested to, provide each
student information and skills training in personal financial management. Students should
understand and be able to manage personal finances including, but not limited to, the
responsible use of consumer credit. This requirement may be waived for a student who
enrolls in a college course providing similar instruction.
