  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education finance; creating a supplemental 
  1.3             transportation levy for intermediate districts and 
  1.4             vocational and special education cooperatives; 
  1.5             proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.6             chapter 123B. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [123B.925] [SUPPLEMENTAL TRANSPORTATION LEVY.] 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [PURPOSE.] The purpose of the supplemental 
  1.10  transportation levy is to provide an incentive for districts to 
  1.11  cooperate with one or more other school districts in the design 
  1.12  and delivery of career and technical education programs. 
  1.13     Subd. 2.  [SUPPLEMENTAL TRANSPORTATION LEVY.] An 
  1.14  intermediate district or vocational or special education 
  1.15  cooperative, as defined in section 123A.24, subdivision 2, 
  1.16  clauses (1) to (3), may levy the amount necessary to offset the 
  1.17  cost of transporting students to cooperative, center-based 
  1.18  programs run by the intermediate school districts and vocational 
  1.19  or special education cooperatives. 
  1.20     [EFFECTIVE DATE.] This section is effective July 1, 2001.
