A bill for an act
relating to education; creating a flexible, year-round school calendar; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 120A.41.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 120A.41, is amended to read:


120A.41 LENGTH OF SCHOOL YEAR; HOURS OF INSTRUCTION.

instruction for a kindergarten student without a disability, 935 hours of instruction for a
student in grades 1 though 6, and 1,020 hours of instruction for a student in grades 7

school district to adopt a four-day week schedule unless approved by the commissioner
under section 124D.126.

new text begin (b) Notwithstanding other law to the contrary, a school board, with the approval of
its voters at a referendum called by the board under section 126C.17, may implement a
flexible year-round school calendar that is consistent with the hours of instruction under
paragraph (a).
