  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime; imposing criminal penalties for 
  1.3             violating a condition of pretrial release; proposing 
  1.4             coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 609. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [609.492] [VIOLATION OF A CONDITION OF PRETRIAL 
  1.7   RELEASE.] 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [VIOLATION.] A person who knowingly 
  1.9   violates a condition of release imposed by the court, judge, or 
  1.10  judicial officer under rule 6.02 of the Rules of Criminal 
  1.11  Procedure is subject to the penalties provided in subdivisions 2 
  1.12  to 4. 
  1.13     Subd. 2.  [MISDEMEANOR.] If the offense with which the 
  1.14  person is charged is a misdemeanor, the person is guilty of a 
  1.15  misdemeanor. 
  1.16     Subd. 3.  [GROSS MISDEMEANOR.] If the offense with which 
  1.17  the person is charged is a gross misdemeanor, the person is 
  1.18  guilty of a gross misdemeanor. 
  1.19     Subd. 4.  [FELONY.] If the offense with which the person is 
  1.20  charged is a felony-level offense, the person is guilty of a 
  1.21  five-year felony. 
  1.22     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.23     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1999, and applies to 
  1.24  crimes committed on or after that date.
