A bill for an act
relating to emergency medical services; authorizing cities with full-time fire
departments to designate ambulance service providers; proposing coding for new
law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 144E.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin Notwithstanding section144E.06, a home-rule charter
or statutory city with a full-time fire department may designate the city as a primary
service area and designate its fire department as the primary service provider of ambulance
services within the city.

new text begin A city exercising the powers authorized in subdivision
1 must notify the board 30 calendar days before the designation is effective. The board
must adjust the primary service areas accordingly so that all other areas of the state are
part of a primary service area with a licensed ambulance service designated to provide
service to that area.
