  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to elections; changing certain precinct 
  1.3             caucus procedures; eliminating the presidential 
  1.4             primary; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, sections 
  1.5             202A.18, by adding a subdivision; and 202A.20, 
  1.6             subdivision 2; repealing Minnesota Statutes 1998, 
  1.7             sections 207A.01; 207A.02; 207A.03; 207A.04; 207A.06; 
  1.8             207A.07; 207A.08; 207A.09; and 207A.10. 
  1.9   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.10     Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 202A.18, is 
  1.11  amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.12     Subd. 2a.  [PREFERENCE BALLOT.] Prior to the opening of 
  1.13  nominations for the election of permanent offices and delegates, 
  1.14  a ballot must be distributed to permit caucus participants to 
  1.15  indicate their preference for the offices of president of the 
  1.16  United States or governor.  The results of preference voting 
  1.17  must be reported to the secretary of state immediately upon 
  1.18  conclusion of the voting, in the manner provided by the 
  1.19  secretary of state.  The secretary of state shall provide the 
  1.20  appropriate forms to the party for reporting the results. 
  1.21     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 202A.20, 
  1.22  subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.23     Subd. 2.  [REPORTING CAUCUS RESULTS.] The secretary of 
  1.24  state may provide a method for the timely reporting of caucus 
  1.25  results to the public shall promptly report to the public the 
  1.26  results of preference balloting at the precinct caucuses. 
  1.27     Sec. 3.  [REPEALER.] 
  2.1      Minnesota Statutes 1998, sections 207A.01; 207A.02; 
  2.2   207A.03; 207A.04; 207A.06; 207A.07; 207A.08; 207A.09; and 
  2.3   207A.10, are repealed.
