A bill for an act
relating to employment and economic development;
appropriating money for grants for minority business
development programs and for purposes of the
Procurement Technical Assistance Center.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION.

new text begin (a) $155,000 in fiscal year 2006 and $155,000 in fiscal
year 2007 are appropriated from the general fund to the
commissioner of employment and economic development for grants
to the Metropolitan Economic Development Association for
continuing minority business development programs in the
metropolitan area. These programs include one-on-one business
consulting, marketing assistance, providing and arranging
financing, and training and leadership development. These
appropriations are part of the department's budget base.

new text begin (b) $150,000 in fiscal year 2006 and $150,000 in fiscal
year 2007 are appropriated from the general fund to the
commissioner of employment and economic development for grants
to the Metropolitan Economic Development Association for the
purposes of the Procurement Technical Assistance Center. These
grants are to assist the center in connecting Minnesota
businesses with government contract opportunities, obtaining
more federal contracts to better leverage federal expenditures
for economic growth, and creating and retaining jobs in
Minnesota. These appropriations are part of the department's
budget base.
