  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to emergency medical services; requiring a 
  1.3             preparedness study. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [STUDY OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES 
  1.6   PREPAREDNESS.] 
  1.7      The department of public safety shall conduct a study of 
  1.8   Minnesota's emergency medical service preparedness and its 
  1.9   relationship to the department's overall homeland security 
  1.10  planning.  The study must analyze the coordination of responses 
  1.11  to emergencies, the financial stability of the industries 
  1.12  involved in providing prehospital emergency care, the effect of 
  1.13  primary service area determinations, availability in response to 
  1.14  terroristic activity, and the authority of governmental 
  1.15  subdivisions in determining the level of care.  The department 
  1.16  shall report its findings to the chairs of the senate health and 
  1.17  family security committee and crime prevention and public safety 
  1.18  committee and the chairs of the house of representatives health 
  1.19  and human services policy committee and judiciary policy and 
  1.20  finance committee by February 1, 2004.
