  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to counties; modifying the requirement for 
  1.3             certain counties that the county financial statement 
  1.4             be published in two newspapers of general circulation; 
  1.5             amending Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 375.17, 
  1.6             subdivision 3. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1996, section 375.17, 
  1.9   subdivision 3, is amended to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 3.  [FILING.] In addition to the publication in the 
  1.11  newspaper designated by the board as the official newspaper for 
  1.12  publication of the financial statement, the statement shall be 
  1.13  published in one other newspaper, if one of general circulation 
  1.14  is located in a different municipality in the county than the 
  1.15  official newspaper.  The county board shall call for separate 
  1.16  bids for each publication.  If there are only two newspapers of 
  1.17  general circulation in the county, the county board may publish 
  1.18  the statement in only one of the newspapers and publish a notice 
  1.19  in the other newspaper notifying county residents that the 
  1.20  county's financial statement is available for inspection.  If a 
  1.21  provision of this section is inconsistent with section 393.07, 
  1.22  the provisions of that section shall prevail.  The financial 
  1.23  statement must be filed with the county auditor for public 
  1.24  inspection. 
  1.25     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.26     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
