A bill for an act
relating to higher education; providing funding to the Board of Regents of the
University of Minnesota for the purpose of supporting education and research
activities in the area of health workforce and clinical sciences; appropriating
money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA.

new text begin The sums indicated in this section are appropriated from the general fund to the
Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota for the purposes stated:

new text begin (1) $3,000,000 in fiscal year 2008 and $4,500,000 in fiscal year 2009 are appropriated
to establish statewide cooperative programs, with leadership centers in the Twin Cities and
Rochester, to expand enrollments in medical technology and occupational therapy;

new text begin (2) $450,000 in fiscal year 2008 and $900,000 in fiscal year 2009 are appropriated to
establish a new professional doctorate to respond to the national mandate to increase the
level of education for advanced practice nurses;

new text begin (3) $400,000 in fiscal year 2008 and $800,000 in fiscal year 2009 are appropriated to
support the Center for American Indian and Minority Health; and

new text begin (4) $1,000,000 in fiscal year 2008 and $2,000,000 in fiscal year 2009 are appropriated
to support the integration of technologies into an integrated system supporting academic
programs in the Academic Health Center.
