A bill for an act
relating to taxation; local government aid; prohibiting aid for cities with sanctuary
ordinances; amending Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 477A.013, by adding a
subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2016, section 477A.013, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin No aid for cities with sanctuary ordinances. new text end

new text begin Notwithstanding subdivisions
8 and 9, no city shall receive aid under this section if the city has, or had within the last
year, an ordinance prohibiting public safety officials from undertaking any law enforcement
action for the purpose of detecting the presence of undocumented persons or to verify
immigration status. Any aid that would otherwise be paid to a city under this section shall
be redistributed to other cities under subdivisions 8 and 9.
