  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to courts; removing appellate jurisdiction 
  1.3             from district courts after statutory appeal period; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 484.01, 
  1.5             subdivision 1. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 484.01, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.9      Subdivision 1.  [GENERAL.] The district courts shall have 
  1.10  original jurisdiction in all civil actions within their 
  1.11  respective districts, in all cases of crime committed or triable 
  1.12  therein, in all special proceedings not exclusively cognizable 
  1.13  by some other court or tribunal, and in all other cases wherein 
  1.14  such jurisdiction is especially conferred upon them by law.  
  1.15  They shall also have appellate jurisdiction in every case in 
  1.16  which an appeal thereto is allowed by law from any other court, 
  1.17  officer, or body.  No district court shall have appellate 
  1.18  jurisdiction where an appeal is taken past the statutory appeal 
  1.19  period and any action of a district court without appellate 
  1.20  jurisdiction is void and may be vacated at any time.
