  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to education; permitting independent school 
  1.3             district No. 473, Isle, to begin the 1997-1998 school 
  1.4             year before Labor Day. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [EXEMPTION FROM SCHOOL START RESTRICTION.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 126.12, 
  1.8   subdivision 1, for the 1997-1998 school year, independent school 
  1.9   district No. 473, Isle, may begin the elementary and secondary 
  1.10  school year on August 18, 1997, in order for the school district 
  1.11  to complete its conversion of an existing elementary school to a 
  1.12  K-12 facility before the beginning of the 1998-1999 school year. 
  1.13     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.14     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
