  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to lead hazard reduction; appropriating money 
  1.3             for a lead hazard reduction project. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [LEAD HAZARD REDUCTION PROJECT.] 
  1.6      With the money appropriated in section 2, the commissioner 
  1.7   of children, families, and learning shall provide a grant to a 
  1.8   nonprofit organization currently operating the CLEARCorps lead 
  1.9   hazard reduction project.  The grant must be used to continue 
  1.10  the project and reduce and prevent lead poisoning in Minnesota's 
  1.11  children by: 
  1.12     (1) eliminating lead hazards inside and on the exterior of 
  1.13  homes; 
  1.14     (2) teaching family members in those homes how to continue 
  1.15  to live in a lead-safe manner; 
  1.16     (3) preventing lead poisoning in children by (i) assessing 
  1.17  homes at risk for lead hazards; and (ii) distributing outreach 
  1.18  materials and educating children and adults at day care centers, 
  1.19  elementary schools, and resource fairs; 
  1.20     (4) providing support services to persons impacted by lead 
  1.21  poisoning; 
  1.22     (5) acting as a resource on lead hazard reduction to other 
  1.23  communities throughout the state; and 
  1.24     (6) reporting on lead hazard reduction activities to allow 
  2.1   replication in other communities. 
  2.2      Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  2.3      $500,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  2.4   commissioner of children, families, and learning for the lead 
  2.5   hazard reduction project in section 1.  This appropriation is 
  2.6   available until June 30, 2001.  This appropriation is a part of 
  2.7   the department's base for the fiscal biennium ending June 30, 
  2.8   2003.
