A bill for an act
relating to transportation; requiring commissioner of transportation to make a
decision on alternative route for State Highway 53.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin ALTERNATIVE ROUTE ELECTION FOR HIGHWAY 53.

new text begin By March 15, 2015, the commissioner of transportation, in consultation with the
commissioner of natural resources and Cleveland Cliffs Mining Company or its successor,
shall designate a route for that portion of marked Trunk Highway 53 in St. Louis County
near the city of Virginia by electing either the route designated as "Alt. M-1" or the route
designated as "Alt. M-2." Construction must begin no later than June 1, 2015.
