  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to agriculture; providing an appropriation 
  1.3             for livestock odor research; appropriating money. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA.] 
  1.6      (a) $400,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the 
  1.7   University of Minnesota for research and development of: 
  1.8      (1) an odor rating system that compares odor levels of 
  1.9   livestock production facilities based on the species of 
  1.10  livestock, livestock housing, manure management systems, and 
  1.11  other factors that contribute to odor levels; 
  1.12     (2) recommended setback requirements for livestock 
  1.13  production facilities based on the odor rating system developed 
  1.14  in clause (1); and 
  1.15     (3) best management practices to control livestock odor 
  1.16  with priority on the development of practices that control odor 
  1.17  as much as economically feasible during seasonal and other 
  1.18  periods of peak odor levels. 
  1.19     (b) This appropriation is available until June 30, 1999.
