  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to public employment; exempting certain 
  1.3             salary increases for teachers from any salary and wage 
  1.4             rate freeze that may be imposed by law. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [SALARY FREEZE EXEMPTION.] 
  1.7      Notwithstanding any salary and wage rate freeze that may be 
  1.8   imposed by a law enacted during the 2003 legislative session, a 
  1.9   school district may increase the salary of a teacher, at the 
  1.10  rate in effect before the imposition of the freeze, for the 
  1.11  successful completion of further academic training that 
  1.12  otherwise would have qualified the teacher for an increase.  For 
  1.13  purposes of this section, "teacher" has the meaning given it in 
  1.14  Minnesota Statutes, section 122A.40, subdivision 1. 
  1.15     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.16     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
