  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to human services; appropriating money for 
  1.3             the senior service corps volunteer programs. 
  1.4   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.5      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATIONS.] 
  1.6      (a) $2,000,000 is appropriated from the general fund for 
  1.7   the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, to the commissioner of 
  1.8   human services for the volunteer programs for retired citizens 
  1.9   under Minnesota Statutes, section 256.9753, to expand the 
  1.10  seniors in the schools initiative, provide travel reimbursement 
  1.11  to volunteers, and continue community outreach and the expansion 
  1.12  of the program.  This amount shall become part of the base 
  1.13  appropriation. 
  1.14     (b) $400,000 is appropriated from the general fund for the 
  1.15  biennium beginning July 1, 2001, to the commissioner of human 
  1.16  services for the foster grandparent program under Minnesota 
  1.17  Statutes, section 256.976, to assist with necessary extensive 
  1.18  training expenses and travel reimbursement for volunteers.  This 
  1.19  amount shall become part of the base appropriation. 
  1.20     (c) $800,000 is appropriated from the general fund for the 
  1.21  biennium beginning July 1, 2001, to the commissioner of human 
  1.22  services for the senior companion program under Minnesota 
  1.23  Statutes, section 256.977, to expand the program, assist with 
  1.24  travel reimbursement for volunteers, and continue the experience 
  2.1   corps for independent living.  This amount shall become part of 
  2.2   the base appropriation.
