A bill for an act
relating to education; requiring teacher preparation programs to include online
coursework; amending Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 122A.092, by adding a
subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2020, section 122A.092, is amended by adding a subdivision
to read:

new text begin The Professional Educator
Licensing and Standards Board must work with Minnesota teacher preparation programs
to provide teacher preparation programs for every teacher licensure area required by the
board. Approved programs must be hybrid programs and at least 80 percent of the required
coursework must be available online. If an in-state approved teacher preparation program
is not established for a teacher licensure area, the board must enter into an agreement with
an out-of-state program provider with 100 percent of the required coursework available
online.
