A bill for an act
relating to public safety; creating the crime of electronic impersonation; imposing
penalties; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 609.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin (a) A person who knowingly and without consent and with intent to cause
harassment as defined in section 609.748, subdivision 1, paragraph (a), clause (1), credibly
represents oneself as another actual person through or on a Web site or by other electronic
means is guilty of a felony.

new text begin (b) For the purposes of this section, a person credibly represents oneself as another
person if another person would reasonably believe, or did reasonably believe, that the
defendant was or is the person who was impersonated.
