  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to professions; extending the expiration date 
  1.3             of the respiratory care practitioner advisory council; 
  1.4             providing for cancellation of athletic trainer 
  1.5             registration for nonrenewal after two years; amending 
  1.6             Minnesota Statutes 2000, sections 147C.35, subdivision 
  1.7             2; and 148.7809, subdivision 4. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 147C.35, 
  1.10  subdivision 2, is amended to read: 
  1.11     Subd. 2.  [ORGANIZATION.] The advisory council shall be 
  1.12  organized and administered under section 15.059.  The council 
  1.13  expires June 30, 2001 2003. 
  1.14     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 148.7809, 
  1.15  subdivision 4, is amended to read: 
  1.16     Subd. 4.  [LAPSE OF REGISTRATION STATUS.] (a) Except as 
  1.17  provided in paragraph (b), an athletic trainer whose 
  1.18  registration has lapsed must: 
  1.19     (1) apply for registration renewal under this section; and 
  1.20     (2) submit evidence satisfactory to the board from a 
  1.21  licensed medical physician verifying employment in athletic 
  1.22  training for eight weeks every three years during the time of 
  1.23  the lapse in registration. 
  1.24     (b) The board shall not renew, reissue, reinstate, or 
  1.25  restore a registration that has lapsed after June 30, 1999, and 
  1.26  has not been renewed within two annual renewal cycles starting 
  2.1   July 1, 2001.  An athletic trainer whose registration is 
  2.2   canceled for nonrenewal must obtain a new registration by 
  2.3   applying for registration and fulfilling all requirements then 
  2.4   in existence for an initial registration.
