  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to transportation; appropriating money to the 
  1.3             metropolitan council for express bus service between 
  1.4             Rogers and downtown Minneapolis and between Lakeville 
  1.5             and Minneapolis or St. Paul. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION; ROGERS EXPRESS BUS 
  1.8   DEMONSTRATION PROJECT.] 
  1.9      $1,200,000 is appropriated in the biennium ending June 30, 
  1.10  2003, from the general fund to the metropolitan council for the 
  1.11  establishment of a demonstration project providing express bus 
  1.12  service between Rogers and downtown Minneapolis.  The 
  1.13  metropolitan council shall acquire the vehicles and provide the 
  1.14  service.  The metropolitan council shall lease and maintain 
  1.15  park-and-ride facilities related to the service or shall make a 
  1.16  grant to the city of Rogers for this purpose.  Of this 
  1.17  appropriation: 
  1.18     (1) $600,000 is for acquisition of up to three vehicles by 
  1.19  the metropolitan council; 
  1.20     (2) $100,000 is for leasing and operation of park-and-ride 
  1.21  facilities related to the service; and 
  1.22     (3) $500,000 is for operation of the service until June 30, 
  1.23  2003. 
  1.24     Sec. 2.  [APPROPRIATION; LAKEVILLE EXPRESS BUS 
  1.25  DEMONSTRATION PROJECT.] 
  2.1      $1,200,000 is appropriated in the biennium ending June 30, 
  2.2   2003, from the general fund to the metropolitan council for a 
  2.3   grant to the city of Lakeville for the establishment of a 
  2.4   demonstration project providing express bus service between 
  2.5   Lakeville and downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul.  The city of 
  2.6   Lakeville shall contract for the vehicles and the service.  The 
  2.7   city shall lease and maintain park-and-ride facilities related 
  2.8   to the service. 
  2.9      Sec. 3.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.10     Sections 1 and 2 are effective July 1, 2001.
