  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to crime prevention; requiring the 
  1.3             commissioner of public safety to award grants to local 
  1.4             governmental units to reimburse them for costs 
  1.5             incurred in implementing community notification for 
  1.6             released sex offenders; appropriating money. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  [APPROPRIATION.] 
  1.9      $500,000 is appropriated to the commissioner of public 
  1.10  safety from the general fund for the fiscal biennium ending June 
  1.11  30, 1999, for grants to local governmental units that have 
  1.12  incurred costs implementing Minnesota Statutes, section 244.052 
  1.13  or 244.10, subdivision 2a.  Local governmental units shall 
  1.14  detail in their grant applications the costs they have incurred 
  1.15  along with any other information required by the commissioner.  
  1.16  The commissioner shall award grants in a manner that reimburses 
  1.17  local governmental units demonstrating the greatest need.
