  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to retirement; teachers retirement 
  1.3             association; authorizing a service credit purchase for 
  1.4             an uncredited leave period. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [TEACHERS RETIREMENT ASSOCIATION; SERVICE 
  1.7   CREDIT PURCHASE.] 
  1.8      (a) Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, an 
  1.9   eligible person described in paragraph (b) is entitled to 
  1.10  purchase service credit from the teachers retirement association 
  1.11  for the period specified in paragraph (b), clause (3), upon 
  1.12  payment of the purchase price specified in paragraph (c). 
  1.13     (b) An eligible person is a person who: 
  1.14     (1) is a current member of the teachers retirement 
  1.15  association; 
  1.16     (2) is employed by the Hennepin county home school; and 
  1.17     (3) was on leave from the Hennepin county home school from 
  1.18  January 8, 1998, to June 15, 1998. 
  1.19     (c) The purchase payment amount must be determined as 
  1.20  provided in Minnesota Statutes, section 356.55.  
  1.21     (d) Payment of the prior service credit purchase amount 
  1.22  must be made by January 1, 2002. 
  1.23     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.24     Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
