  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to motor vehicles; allowing surviving spouses 
  1.3             to continue to purchase special license plates issued 
  1.4             to veterans; amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 
  1.5             168.123, by adding a subdivision; and 168.124, by 
  1.6             adding a subdivision. 
  1.7   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.8      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 168.123, is 
  1.9   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.10     Subd. 5a.  [SURVIVING SPOUSE.] Upon the death of a veteran 
  1.11  issued special license plates under subdivision 2, the registrar 
  1.12  shall continue to issue, upon renewal, the special license 
  1.13  plates to a vehicle owned by the surviving spouse of the veteran 
  1.14  on the same terms and conditions for renewal as applied to a 
  1.15  veteran under this section.  Special license plates issued to a 
  1.16  surviving spouse may be transferred to another vehicle owned by 
  1.17  the surviving spouse as provided in subdivision 4.  
  1.18     Sec. 2.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 168.124, is 
  1.19  amended by adding a subdivision to read:

  2.3      Sections 1 and 2 are effective June 1, 1999.
