  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to retirement; authorizing purchase of prior 
  1.3             service credit from the public employees retirement 
  1.4             association. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [PAYMENT OF OMITTED SALARY DEDUCTIONS.] 
  1.7      Subdivision 1.  [APPLICATION.] A person who was born on 
  1.8   February 1, 1961, who was employed by Lac qui Parle county in 
  1.9   March 1989, June 1989, and July 1989, but who first had public 
  1.10  employees retirement association member contributions deducted 
  1.11  in August 1989, is entitled to purchase service credit from the 
  1.12  public employees retirement association for the service in 
  1.13  March, June, and July 1989. 
  1.14     Subd. 2.  [PAYMENT.] The purchase payment amount for the 
  1.15  service credit purchase authorized in subdivision 1 is governed 
  1.16  by Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 356.55.  Notwithstanding 
  1.17  section 356.55, subdivision 7, paragraph (b), payment may be 
  1.18  made at any time before July 1, 2002. 
  1.19     Subd. 3.  [APPLICATION; DOCUMENTATION.] A person described 
  1.20  in subdivision 1 must apply with the executive director of the 
  1.21  public employees retirement association to make the purchase.  
  1.22  The application must be in writing and must include all 
  1.23  necessary documentation of the applicability of this section and 
  1.24  any other relevant information that the executive director may 
  1.25  require. 
  2.1      Subd. 4.  [LIMITATION.] Authority under this section 
  2.2   expires July 1, 2002, if not used before then. 
  2.3      Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  2.4      Section 1 is effective the day following final enactment.
