A bill for an act
relating to education funding; providing for payment
of the full cost of school breakfast and lunch special
diets based on religious beliefs of students; amending
Minnesota Statutes 2004, sections 124D.111,
subdivision 1; 124D.1158, subdivision 3.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 124D.111,
subdivision 1, is amended to read:


Subdivision 1.

School lunch aid computation.

Each school
year, the state must pay districts participating in the national
school lunch programnew text begin :

new text begin (1) new text end the amount of eight cents for each full paid, reduced,
and free student lunch served to students in the districtnew text begin ; and
new text end

new text begin (2) the amount necessary to pay the full cost for each full
paid, reduced, and free student lunch that is a special diet
based on the religious beliefs of the student and served to the
student in the district
new text end .

Sec. 2.

Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 124D.1158,
subdivision 3, is amended to read:


Subd. 3.

Program reimbursement.

Each school year, the
state must reimburse each participating schoolnew text begin :
new text end

new text begin (1) new text end 30 cents for each reduced price breakfast and 55 cents
for each fully paid breakfastnew text begin ; and
new text end

new text begin (2) the amount necessary to pay the full cost for each
reduced price and fully paid breakfast that is a special diet
based on the religious beliefs of the student
