  1.1                          A bill for an act
  1.2             relating to sentencing; regulating the awarding of 
  1.3             jail credit to certain offenders; proposing coding for 
  1.4             new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 609. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [609.146] [COMPUTATION OF JAIL CREDIT.] 
  1.7      An offender is entitled to a reduction in the offender's 
  1.8   term of imprisonment for time spent in custody in a correctional 
  1.9   facility before the date of sentencing or probation revocation 
  1.10  only when the time was spent in custody in connection with the 
  1.11  offense or behavioral incident for which the offender's sentence 
  1.12  is being imposed or probation is being revoked. 
  1.13     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.14     Section 1 is effective August 1, 1995, and applies to 
  1.15  persons sentenced and probation revocation hearings held on or 
  1.16  after that date.
