A bill for an act
relating to higher education; abolishing the Lake Superior Center Authority and
transferring all assets related to the facilities and operations of the Lake Superior
Center to the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota; repealing
Minnesota Statutes 2010, sections 85B.01; 85B.02; 85B.03; 85B.04; 85B.05;
85B.06; 85B.07; 85B.08; Laws 1990, chapter 535, sections 1; 2; 3, as amended;
4; 5, as amended; 6; 7; 8.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

The Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota, the city of Duluth, the Duluth
Economic Development Authority, and the Lake Superior Center Authority may enter
into an agreement to transfer all assets relating to the facilities and operations of the Lake
Superior Center in the city of Duluth, also known as the Great Lakes Aquarium, from the
Lake Superior Center Authority to the Board of Regents of the University of Minnesota
for use by the University of Minnesota, Duluth as a freshwater lake education and
research facility. The agreement is subject to review and approval by the commissioner
of management and budget. Upon approval by the commissioner and execution of the
agreement by all necessary parties, the Lake Superior Center Authority is abolished and
all assets of the Lake Superior Center and all assets of the city of Duluth directly related to
the operations and maintenance of the Lake Superior Center, are transferred to the Board
of Regents of the University of Minnesota.
