  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to local government; authorizing 25 
  1.3             additional licensed part-time peace officers in the 
  1.4             Itasca county sheriff's department. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  [ADDITIONAL LICENSED PART-TIME PEACE OFFICERS.] 
  1.7      The Itasca county sheriff may employ 25 more part-time 
  1.8   peace officers as defined in Minnesota Statutes, section 626.84, 
  1.9   subdivision 1, paragraph (f), than are authorized by Minnesota 
  1.10  Statutes, section 626.8468, subdivision 1, paragraph (a). 
  1.11     Sec. 2.  [DAY OF EFFECT; NO LOCAL APPROVAL.] 
  1.12     (a) Section 1 is effective the day after its final 
  1.13  enactment. 
  1.14     (b) Section 1 does not require local approval because it 
  1.15  enables a local government unit to exercise authority not 
  1.16  granted by general law as provided in Minnesota Statutes, 
  1.17  section 645.023, subdivision 1, clause (a).
