A bill for an act
relating to education; postsecondary; transferring money to Minnesota state
colleges and universities for scholarships for the community paramedic program.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; MINNESOTA STATE COLLEGES AND
UNIVERSITIES; COMMUNITY PARAMEDIC PROGRAM.

new text begin Of the appropriation made under Laws 2009, chapter 79, article 13, section 6, as
amended by Laws 2009, chapter 173, article 2, section 4, $110,000 shall be transferred
from the commissioner of veterans affairs to the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State
Colleges and Universities to make grants to any Minnesota state college or university that
is approved to teach an accredited community paramedic program. This grant money shall
be used for scholarships to cover the cost of courses, supplies, and clinical expenses for
eligible paramedics. Priority for allocation of the scholarships shall be given to honorably
discharged military veterans currently residing in Minnesota or current members of the
Minnesota National Guard. Eligible applicants must meet all criteria listed in Minnesota
Statutes, section 144E.28, subdivision 9, and be successfully enrolled in an accredited
community paramedic program. This onetime appropriation is available until expended.
