  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to local government; providing an exception 
  1.3             to the conflict of interest law for township officers; 
  1.4             amending Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 471.88, by 
  1.5             adding a subdivision. 
  1.6   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.7      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2002, section 471.88, is 
  1.8   amended by adding a subdivision to read: 
  1.9      Subd. 20.  [TOWNSHIP SUPERVISOR IS EMPLOYEE OF CONTRACTOR.] 
  1.10  When a township and a contractor enter into a contract governed 
  1.11  by section 471.345, a township supervisor who is an employee of 
  1.12  the contractor but who had no role in the contractor's bid or 
  1.13  negotiation for the contract with the township, is not precluded 
  1.14  from continuing to serve as a township official during the term 
  1.15  of the contract if the township supervisor abstains from voting 
  1.16  on any official action relating to the contract and discloses 
  1.17  the supervisor's reason for the abstention in the official 
  1.18  minutes of the township meeting.
