A bill for an act
relating to arts and cultural heritage; appropriating money to Indian Affairs Council.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; MINNESOTA INDIAN AFFAIRS COUNCIL.

new text begin (a) $2,300,000 in fiscal year 2024 and $2,300,000 in fiscal year 2025 are appropriated
from the arts and cultural heritage fund to the Indian Affairs Council to preserve the Dakota
and Ojibwe Indian languages and to carry out the responsibilities under Minnesota Statutes,
section 307.08, to comply with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation
Act.

new text begin (b) Of the amount in paragraph (a), $850,000 each year is to provide grants to Minnesota
Tribal Nations to preserve Dakota and Ojibwe Indian language and to foster education
programs and services for Dakota and Ojibwe language.

new text begin (c) Of the amount in paragraph (a), $650,000 each year is for grants to Dakota and
Ojibwe language immersion educational institutions.

new text begin (d) Of the amount in paragraph (a), $600,000 each year is to provide grants to preserve
the Dakota and Ojibwe Indian language through support of projects and services and to
support education programs and immersion efforts in Dakota and Ojibwe language.

language working group coordinated by the Indian Affairs Council.

new text begin (f) Of the amount in paragraph (a), $150,000 each year is for the Indian Affairs Council
to carry out responsibilities under Minnesota Statutes, section 307.08, to comply with Public
Law 101-601, the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.
