A bill for an act
relating to crimes; providing that careless driving resulting in death is a gross
misdemeanor; amending Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 169.13, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2006, section 169.13, is amended by adding a
subdivision to read:

new text begin Careless driving resulting in death. new text end

new text begin (a) A person who drives, operates,
or halts a vehicle, anywhere in this state, carelessly or heedlessly in disregard of the rights
of others or in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger any property or any person,
including any driver or passenger of a vehicle or other person, that results in the death of a
person, is guilty of a gross misdemeanor.

punish a person for conduct that constitutes a crime under any other law of this state.
