  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to elections; requiring disclaimers in 
  1.3             newspaper ads to be legible; amending Minnesota 
  1.4             Statutes 2000, section 211B.05, subdivision 1. 
  1.5   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.6      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 2000, section 211B.05, 
  1.7   subdivision 1, is amended to read: 
  1.8      Subdivision 1.  [ACCEPTANCE OF PAID ADVERTISEMENTS.] A 
  1.9   newspaper, periodical, or magazine may not intentionally accept 
  1.10  for insertion in the newspaper, magazine, or periodical a 
  1.11  political advertisement unless the words "PAID ADVERTISEMENT," 
  1.12  and the disclaimer required under section 211B.04 are included 
  1.13  at the beginning or end of the advertisement.  The disclaimer 
  1.14  must be in at least eight-point type and legible.  A radio 
  1.15  station, television station, or cable system may not accept for 
  1.16  broadcast a political advertisement unless the words "PAID 
  1.17  ADVERTISEMENT" are included at the beginning or end of the 
  1.18  advertisement.
