A bill for an act
relating to environment; appropriating money to provide grants to counties to
evaluate impaired lakes and waters.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin GRANTS FOR PILOT PROJECTS TO TEST AND EVALUATE NEW
METHODS TO IMPROVE IMPAIRED LAKES AND WATERS; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $....... in fiscal year 2022 is appropriated from the general fund to the Board of Water
and Soil Resources to provide grants of equal amounts to no more than three counties or
county joint powers boards in the area covered by Minnesota Soil and Water Conservation
Districts Northwest Area 1, South Central Area 6, and North Central Area 8 to evaluate
impaired lakes and waters through water quality testing technology, such as wireless testing
probe buoys and portable testing devices, used alone or in coordination with new nonchemical
treatment technologies that increase the recreational user days of the lakes and waters by
improving water quality, dissolved oxygen, and related parameters. The Board of Water
and Soil Resources must award the grants within 14 days of receiving an application from
a county or joint powers board. This is a onetime appropriation.
