A bill for an act
relating to workforce development; appropriating money for a study of the early
childhood education workforce.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION WORKFORCE STUDY;
APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $255,000 in fiscal year 2023 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of employment and economic development for a study on the early childhood education
workforce in Minnesota. This study shall provide a consolidated source of up-to-date data
on the makeup of the early childhood education workforce; wages, income, and benefits in
the industry; and barriers to entering these careers or retaining workers in the field, along
with information on any other relevant issues identified during the research process. It shall
be completed within 18 months and the commissioner may contract with another organization
to complete the study. This is a onetime appropriation and is available until December 30,
2023.
