A bill for an act
relating to natural resources; establishing a pollinator-friendly neighborhood
program; appropriating money; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
Statutes, chapter 84.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [84.974] POLLINATOR-FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD PROGRAM.

new text begin (a) The commissioner of natural resources, in consultation with local units of
government, shall develop model criteria that may be used by local units of government
for designating pollinator-friendly neighborhoods, which may be as small as a city block.
In developing the criteria, the commissioner must consider:

new text begin (1) the percentage of properties within a neighborhood refraining from using
pesticides or pesticide-containing products known to negatively impact pollinators; and
new text end

new text begin (2) the percentage of properties within a neighborhood providing pollinator habitat.

new text begin (b) The commissioner shall develop signs that may be erected in neighborhoods
designated by local units of government as pollinator friendly under this section. The
commissioner shall provide the signs to local units of government upon request.

Sec. 2. new text begin APPROPRIATION.
