A bill for an act
relating to health; prohibiting awards or incentives for medical examinations or
procedures for minors; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter
145.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin (a) The terms defined in this subdivision apply to this section.

new text begin (b) "Local unit of government" means a county, statutory or home rule charter city,
town, school district, or community health board.

new text begin (c) "Medical examination" or "medical procedure" means an examination or procedure
of any kind provided or performed by a health care provider to maintain health or to prevent,
determine the presence of, or treat an illness or injury.

new text begin (d) "State agency" means an entity in the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of
state government.

new text begin A state agency or local unit of government
must not offer or provide an award or incentive of any kind to a minor or to a minor's parent
or legal guardian:

new text begin (1) in order to prompt the minor or the minor's parent or legal guardian to have a medical
examination or medical procedure performed on the minor; or

new text begin (2) as a reward for having a medical examination or medical procedure performed on
the minor.
