A bill for an act
relating to the legislature; reducing the number of members of the senate and
house of representatives; amending Minnesota Statutes 2004, sections 2.021;
2.031, subdivision 1.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 2.021, is amended to read:
For each legislature, deleted text begin until a new apportionment shall have been made, deleted text end the senate is
composed of deleted text begin 67deleted text end new text begin 53new text end members and the house of representatives is composed of deleted text begin 134deleted text end new text begin 106new text end
members.
Minnesota Statutes 2004, section 2.031, subdivision 1, is amended to read:
The representatives in the senate and house
of representatives are apportioned throughout the state in deleted text begin 67deleted text end new text begin 53new text end senate districts and deleted text begin 134deleted text end new text begin
106new text end house districts. Each senate district is entitled to elect one senator and each house
district is entitled to elect one representative.

Sections 1 and 2 are effective for elections held to elect senators and representatives
to serve after January 1, 2013.
