  1.1                          A bill for an act 
  1.2             relating to education; requiring students interested 
  1.3             in enrolling in a post-secondary enrollment options 
  1.4             course or program to notify the school district within 
  1.5             30 calendar days or June 30, whichever is last; 
  1.6             amending Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 124D.09, 
  1.7             subdivision 7. 
  1.8   BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 
  1.9      Section 1.  Minnesota Statutes 1998, section 124D.09, 
  1.10  subdivision 7, is amended to read: 
  1.11     Subd. 7.  [DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION; NOTIFICATION OF 
  1.12  INTENT TO ENROLL.] By no later than March 1 of each year, a and 
  1.13  before a district distributes students' class schedules or 
  1.14  schedule options for the next school year, the district must 
  1.15  provide general information about the program to all pupils in 
  1.16  grades 10 and 11.  To assist the district in planning, a pupil 
  1.17  shall inform the district by March 30 of each year within 30 
  1.18  calendar days of when the student receives written notice of the 
  1.19  student's class schedule or schedule options for the next school 
  1.20  year or June 30, whichever is last, of the pupil's intent to 
  1.21  enroll in post-secondary courses during the following school 
  1.22  year.  A pupil is not bound by notifying or not notifying the 
  1.23  district by March 30.  
  1.24     Sec. 2.  [EFFECTIVE DATE.] 
  1.25     Section 1 is effective for the 2000-2001 school year and 
  1.26  later.
