A bill for an act
relating to human services; requiring foster care providers to annually provide
mental health training; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes,
chapter 245A.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

new text begin [245A.167] MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING REQUIREMENT.

new text begin (a) Foster care agencies and foster care providers licensed under this chapter shall
conduct and document training that fulfills the requirements in this section.

new text begin (b) Training required under this section must be at least two hours in length and
completed at orientation training. One hour of training shall be repeated annually. At a
minimum, the training must address causes, symptoms, and key warning signs of mental
health disorders and cultural considerations.

new text begin (c) Training under paragraph (b) must be provided by organizations approved by the
Department of Human Services.
