A bill for an act
relating to economic development; providing for southeast Asian liaison staff at
the Northside Workforce Center; appropriating money.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1. new text begin NORTHSIDE WORKFORCE CENTER SOUTHEAST ASIAN
LIAISON; APPROPRIATION.

new text begin $....... in fiscal year 2017 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
of employment and economic development to hire liaison staff fluent in Hmong, Lao,
Karen, and other appropriate southeast Asian languages. The liaison staff must work
with persons seeking services at or through the Northside Workforce Center, develop
relationships with area businesses and other southeast Asian service organizations,
including the Hmong American Mutual Assistance Association, the Lao Assistance
Center, and the Center for Asians and Pacific Islanders, to promote southeast Asian
workers, and work to link businesses with potential employees within the community.
